Discover the merging of chi and art, the intangible power of mixing the aura of objects with the soul of humanity. John Meyer will weave the cultivation of chi—vital life force or energy—with a tour of Shantigar’s collection of Buddhist and Taoist art, exploring their symbols and philosophy.
Experience the tranquility and mystical pleasure of being around art that seems to open the body to all kinds of possibilities. Combined with gentle Tao-ist exercises, this afternoon offers a unique immersion in the physical and metaphysical.

John Meyer is an antiques dealer and Asian art expert who formerly owned the LiAsia gallery in Williamstown. For many years, he partnered with Jean-Claude van Itallie to curate Shantigar’s collection of Buddhist and Taoist art. John has studied Taoist yoga since the mid-1970s and has been teaching Chi Kung at Shantigar since the 1990s. He lives on a farm in Western Massachusetts where he dwells daily in his Taoist practice.
